Mercedes Still Makes V12 Engine

V12 Mercedes-Benz (MB) used the S-Class, CL, and SL will remain alive in the next generation. Mercedes decided, after judging that there is still fond of cars with 12-cylinder engine.

Mercy is now preparing for a massive change in the V12 engine of 5.5 and 6.0 liters. This machine will be used in the latest generation S-Class, including the S-Class Coupe and the Mercedes-Benz SL. This is contrary to the trend in other Mercedes model range which lowers the capacity of the machine, but with a turbocharger upgrade that is useful as well for efficiency.

"The existence of buyers S65 and S600 are the reasons V12 continues. Still there are about 4-6 thousand consumers each year, and they will only buy a V12 engine," said Corporate Communications Manager, Mercedes-Benz Australia, David McCarthy, as reported Caradvice Monday (08/07/2013).

Currently S600 uses a 5.5-liter V12 engine with 380 KW power and 830 Nm of torque. While the S65 AMG 6.0-liter engine get hold power reaches 463 kW and 1,000 nm. Both fuel consumption of 14 liters per 100 km.

"If you look at the S600 now, it is clear that he was very thirsty. Now been revised with a lot of expenses and entry into the Euro 6," said McCarthy. Changing V12 6.0 liter Euro 6 to make the fuel consumption of 11.7 liters for 100 km, better than the S65 AMG.

With the presence of the latest generation of the S600 and S65 AMG, 12-cylinder engine getting a lot of changes to support the addition of fuel efficiency drastically.

"We will do a lot of changes by updating the transmission and size tuning of the ability of the machine itself. We also will improve all aspects of the S-Class include the drag coefficient and a strict diet," said Head of Product Management and S-Class Roadsters, Lutz Regelmann.

MB has confirmed S500 plug-in hybrid when the Frankfurt motor show in September, in conjunction with the V12 engine models, the S600 and S65 AMG will also be featured Mercedes-Benz.
